Several major operators have been holding trials 4G network. Indonesia is ready
Needs data or Internet access is increasing. Not only in developed countries, in developing countries too, even larger as compared to their needs align with population not less.
4G technology, or 4th-generation technology, refers to the development of mobile phone technology. 4G is the development of 3G technology. Typically this technology is called IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) with the term "3G and beyond".
Then, what the pros 4G? 4G Systems can provide a comprehensive IP solution where voice, data and multimedia flows can be up to users anytime and anywhere, with average data speeds higher than the previous generation.
There are several opinions about the 4G, of which 4G will be IP-based system is fully integrated. This will be achieved when the wired and wireless technologies translated and capable of producing speeds 100Mbps and 1Gbps.
Later, each 4G handset will automatically have an IPv6 number equipped with the ability to interact with an Internet telephony-based Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).
You've heard the term Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access or 'WiMax'? Yes, it is one example of 4G technology. Quoted from Wikipedia.org, WiMAX 4G technology itself can be divided into three generations, namely:- WiMAX 16.d, or often called nomadic WiMAX with mobility limited to a speed of 70 Mbps- WiMAX 16.e, a mobile WiMAX with high mobility speeds up to 144Mbps.- 16.m WiMAX, mobile WiMAX with the highest mobility while until speeds 1Gbps.
In Indonesia, the technology is already tried to implement in June last by the operator trademark Sitra Firstmedia with WiMAX. Reportedly, First Media to invest their money amounting to 350 million U.S. dollars to develop high-speed wireless Internet service based on WiMAX technology for up to 10 years into the future.
As known, Sitra WiMAX is part of the Lippo Group and the latest trademark of PT Firstmedia language. Sitra WiMAX 4G Wireless Broadband will serve first in densely populated areas in Indonesia, namely Jakarta and surrounding areas, and also have the right to license most expensive BWA, including in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Banten Province, North Sumatra and Aceh Province.
Sitra WiMAX operates at 2.3 GHz frequency band spectrum with wider coverage and faster transmission capacity reaching 75 Mbps. Services in the near future will be held in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi and Banten.
Sitra own bid for the zone Wimax Northern Sumatra (Sumbagut), Greater Jakarta and Banten province. Sitra Wimax himself had escaped operation acceptance tests (ulo) by DG Postel in mid-June 2010.
In addition to WiMAX, there is technology LTE (long-term evolution) are also part of the 4G. What is LTE? LTE is also called as the evolution of mobile communications technology to the broadband network (broadband) IP as a whole (end-to-end).
LTE is the development of 3G technology that was originally from 3GPP 1, known as the R-8 (Release-8), which is more focused in the direction of data transfer speed is higher than 3.5G. Reportedly, the maximum data transfer speeds offered are similar to WiMAX, which reached 100 Mbps (downlink).
In Indonesia, some service providers held a trial implementation of LTE. PT Telkomsel one of them. Tests conducted in late June. Testing is done at three places namely in Medan, Jakarta and Denpasar.
Tests using the 700-1800 MHz frequency. Telkomsel involve several vendors such as Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks, Huawei, ZTE. They also involve several universities such as the Institute of Telkom, Bandung Institute of Technology, and several other educational institutions.
"Yes, the point is still limited to research. Because we were waiting for the policy of the government," said VP of Corporate Account Management Telkomsel, Aulia E Marinto, on VIVAnews.com, Friday, December 10, 2010.
"Problem roadmap, clearly we will implement LTE, because it strongly supports the vision and mission. This technology allows companies to do more innovation in products and services. However, the implementation of course based on market analysis and business calculations, so that the right target," he explained.
How the results of market analysis Telkomsel? "Not until that stage. Until now, we're still at the research stage of technology since the test last June," said Aulia.
In addition to Telkomsel, XL Axiata PT Tbk (XL) also plans to anticipate the entry of LTE technology. Working closely with PT Ericsson Indonesia, in April last, a subsidiary Axiata Group Berhad was reviewing the preparation of test LTE technology.
At that time, President Director of XL Hasnul Suhaimi promising trials are conducted in the second semester of 2010. "It has not been done, but before the end of the year we will be testing," said Nadira Febriati, Head of Corporate Communication XL, on VIVAnews.com.
"Jakarta will be the first to feel the XL test LTE technology. We have to get permission from the government. Basically, we just want to demonstrate what are the benefits of LTE technology with data access speeds of up to 100 Mbps," said Ira.
Meanwhile, Teguh Prasetya, Head of Brand Marketing Indosat, said the company is also preparing the implementation of LTE. "Modernization and increase the capabilities of the backbone network with the software until the level of LTE can be done with the compact. Industries are just waiting on the game," he said in VIVAnews.com.
However, it is recognized Teguh, Indosat is still reviewing testing laboratory with its designated vendor prior to entering the commercialization phase. "This year, we continue to explore the LTE technology. So, if there are no obstacles should be next year, the regulations are ready, the operator is ready, so even consumers. We are on the side of the operator is fairly easy, just install the software," he said. (Np)
