Fossil Found in Flores Giant Stork

Stork is the height can reach 180 centimeters. Twice as high human.

Fossil storks with approximately 180 feet tall found in Indonesia. The fossil was discovered in Flores, the same region with the discovery of fossil dwarf human species, Homo floresiensis lived until about 17 thousand years ago.
As is known, Homo floresiensis is a species of early humans who are very close to modern humans, but with a smaller size. First discovered in 2004, the height of this species usually only reaches 90 centimeters.
Newly discovered species of stork, was named to the height of robustus Leptoptilos reach 180 feet until it weighs about 16 pounds. According to the researchers, this makes the crane species such as the largest and heaviest compared stork Marabou stork which can reach 152 centimeters tall and weighs weighs 9 pounds.
With a height of 180 centimeters, stork who lives on the same island of Flores man is expected to disrupt the lives of humans.
"The fossil stork found between the ages of 20 to 50 thousand years," says Hanneke Meijer, palaeontologis of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington who found the fossils together Rokus Due, archaeologists from the National Center for Archaeology in Jakarta, Indonesia.
About 15 thousand years ago, Meijer said, as quoted by UPI, December 10, 2010, in Flores climate changed from dry to wet. "The possibility that climate change is causing a number of species on the island are becoming extinct," says Meijer. (Hs)
