Palestinian flag flying for the first time in America, precisely at the headquarters of the Palestine Liberation Organization in Washington, Tuesday, January 18, 2011. This raising of inviting criticism from U.S. lawmakers who said that the Palestinians trying to seek international attention.

Areikat realize that practically, this flag raising will not affect anything against U.S. foreign policy. However, he said, flying a flag is an important step to seeking U.S. recognition. He hoped the Barack Obama can immediately recognize Palestine as an independent state.

Flag-raising action was opposed by members of the House chairman of U.S. foreign relations affairs, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. Reporting from the page the Jerusalem Post, Lehtinen said that the flag-raising effort this is one of the Palestinian leader to manipulate international acceptance.
"This is part of Palestinian efforts to gain international recognition. Some parts of this strategy aims to show a consensus without any international commitment, "says Lehtinen.
Lehtinen also criticized what he called the Obama administration has supported the Palestinians economically and politically, including supporting the PLO office in Washington.
Director of the lawyers for the American Task Force on Palestine, Ghaith al-Omari, defended the flying of the flag by saying that this is evidence of progress in the West Bank. "The Mission of the PLO will not be able to grow if no progress is made by the Palestinian government in improving security and governance," ujarnya.
